You know that song from Arcade Fire? Keep The Car Running? That's what it sounds like in my head since opening Wild Geese Bookshop. The pace has been a bit breathless and fast, and I have had to outrun my fear again and again, but opening a bookshop in Franklin has been so good for my heart.
If you are joining us for the first time, here's a quick catch-up:
We're an indie bookshop in downtown Franklin selling new books and literary themed gifts. It's small, but we usually have that book they've been talking about on NPR or that is abuzz at your favorite coffee place or the book you always needed, but never knew it existed.
We can also order about anything for you with zero shipping cost to you. We've just started sending care packages out as well which are perfect pick-me-ups for someone who is cramming for finals, grieving or healing.
We had our ribbon cutting on November 1, just in time for the Downtown Holiday Open House and then Shop Small Saturday. Our Gilmore Girls Party November 19th was tons of fun with homemade Pop Tarts, a harpist and themed books and gifts. Our first holiday season was very exciting. This month, we are participating in the downtown Franklin #LoveLocal shopping Passports.
We now have a book club for the shop which is open to new members!
For March, please join us in reading Cathy Day's The Circus In Winter. She will be reading and signing books at Franklin College on March 2nd. The plan is to read the book, attend the event to hear her speak at 7 pm at the Franklin College and then meet at the shop afterwards (around 8:00 or so) to discuss and have refreshments.
For April, our book club pick is Colson Whitehead's National Book Award Winner Underground Railroad. He's on the calendar to read at IU on April 3rd, but it's not yet known if that event will be open to the public. Our plan is to meet Saturday, April 8th at 6:00 pm at the bookshop to discuss the book.
I'm still getting my sea legs, but the people who have come to the shop or placed orders with us to ship have made it the most incredible experience.
I don't know how long this ride will last, so I am making the most of every moment.
Come see us:)
